Social Media Week Wrap-Up

Posted: March 8th, 2011

Now that Social Media Week has come to a close and we’re setting our sites on SXSW, here’s a wrap up of how the week played out.

We kicked off Social Media Week with a CMRL Workshop at Google on Monday. The session focused on how to use our XML-based markup language, CMRL, to develop text messaging services for any website, mobile app, or software. It was well attended and well received (thanks everyone!), and we met a lot of great people after the event.

We also had the pleasure of being a session sponsor at the Google Science and Technology Hub throughout Social Media Week.

And in case you weren’t able to tune in, here’s the full recording of the session hosted by our CEO and Co-Founder, Stefan Gromoll, courtesy of LiveStream.

As the week went on, we had the pleasure of attending many events at the numerous Social Media Week Content Hubs throughout the city at JWT:  Hearst, the Red Bull Space, and the Paley Center for Media. Then we bookended the week by hosting another event, this time at the Business, Media & Communications Hub at JWT, which was more focused on mobile marketing strategy rather than technology.

The sold-out panel (again, thank you everyone!!) entitled “Cross Mobile Brand Strategy” featured several experts in the field of mobile brand strategy with Stefan (far left) moderating the panel (from left to right after Stefan):

  • Kristin Volk – VP, Human Experience Strategy Director – MediaVest
  • Mary Gail Pezzimenti – Executive Producer – Lucky Magazine at Conde Nast Publications
  • Chi Modu – Brand Strategist – Diverse Insights
  • Farrah Bostic – VP, Group Planning Director – Digitas

During the panel, we took the opportunity to create an interactive environment using the mobile phones of the audience members by setting up a way for participants to text in and join the conversation using DOTGO’s technology.

We’d like to thank our panelists, as they were absolutely amazing, and the attendees for participating in a very interesting, thought-provoking discussion. And most of all, we’d like to the organizers and volunteers of Social Media Week for providing such a fantastic platform and event for us to be a part of. We’re really looking forward to next year!

DOTGO’s NYC BigApps Submission – PLEASE VOTE!

Posted: February 14th, 2011

When we heard New York City was hosting the NYC BigApps competition this year, we knew we couldn’t pass up a chance to help make the city more accessible to New Yorkers. Since we’re all about SMS for websites, we thought we would keep things simple, yet useful, and create a DOTGO site for NYC.gov.

To access the site, text “nyc” to DOTGOV (368468) and from there you can navigate to news from the city, information on alternate side parking, garbage and recycling collection, and more. Try it!

We hope you all find this useful, and would greatly appreciate your support in the form of a vote for our submission: VOTE HERE.

You can also access our submission from the simulator.

Thanks!

The panel will be moderated by DOTGO CEO and Co-founder Stefan Gromoll and will focus on how brands are executing on their mobile strategies and what trends appear to be emerging as a result of the heavy focus on the mobile mediaum. Full description:

Cross-Mobile Brand Strategy, Hosted by DOTGO

A discussion on how leading brands are utilizing mobile applications, mobile websites, and text messaging to activate their brand’s regional and global social engagement strategies.

With 91% of the world’s population keeping a mobile phone within arm’s reach, it’s no surprise that having a mobile strategy has become crucial for brands. From feature phones to smart phones, apps to mobile web sites, and with the rise of text messaging as a direct marketing channel, there have never been better ways to reach just about every consumer across the globe. Mobile strategy has become a necessary part of the digital strategies for brands.

Format: 3-4 five minute presentations followed by a panel discussion with brands leading the way in the mobile space, moderated by Stefan Gromoll.

Speakers:

  • Moderator: Stefan Gromoll – CEO and Co-Founder – DOTGO
  • Farrah Bostic – VP, Group Planning Director – Digitas
  • Chi Modu – Brand Strategist – Diverse Insights
  • Kristin Volk – VP, Human Experience Strategy Director – MediaVest

Social Media Week was founded in 2009 and launched as a “distributed conference.” Since its inception it has evolved into a global platform for conversation, collaboration, and learning, focusing on emerging trends in social and mobile media.

DOTGO Demos at New York Tech Meetup

Posted: January 20th, 2011

On Monday, January 10, we presented at the New York Tech Meetup. It was the first meetup of 2011, and it was, by all accounts, spectacular! Alongside other amazing NY-based companies, like Adstruc and Vyou, we demoed our technology and upcoming web product to 1000+ people.

Once Stefan and I took the stage, we had 5+ minutes to explain CMRL, show off our soon-to-be-launched Product Suite, and have a little fun with the crowd.

While I explained the basics of DOTGO, Stefan wowed the crowd with his live-coding prowess, and in a matter of minutes we had the nytm.org SMS site up and running. The BCS Championship game was the same night as the meetup so we decided to set up the nytm.org site with a poll and let the audience get in on the action.

BCS Poll

While the audience had (a little too much) fun with the poll, we got down to business and gave a quick tour of our upcoming web product, the DOTGO Publishing Suite. While we anticipate opening up the product for public beta this week, you can catch a glimpse of the product and the demo in its entirety in the video posted down below.

We would like to thank Nate and Brandon and the NYTM community for their support and kind words, and we look forward to the amazing things that will come out of the NY tech scene this year.

DOTGO to Present at The New York Tech Meetup

Posted: January 7th, 2011

We’re very excited to announce that we’re slotted to demo DOTGO at the New York Tech Meetup this coming Monday, January 10 at 7pm EST. Stefan and Michelle will be onstage showing off our technology as well as launching our new Publishing Suite. The DOTGO Publishing Suite will be made live to the public on January 11, so if you make it to the meetup you’ll be among the first to see it in action.

We’d like to thank the team at the New York Tech Meetup for letting us demo and launch our new product there, and we’ll work on getting a video of the demo as soon as it’s available.

Tickets for the meetup can be found here.

Cheers!

2011 Here We Come!

Posted: December 31st, 2010

DOTGO had an incredible year in 2010 and is closing the year out with a big product launch on the horizon.

Growth has been phenomenal, and adoption has been even better than we expected. In November and December alone, we sent and received as many messages as we did in all of 2009.  After securing a Series A round from Epic Ventures and TomorrowVC (the venture fund of Google’s Eric Schmidt) last spring, the DOTGO team grew to eight, with two more scheduled to join us this coming spring, and we are still looking to hire.  In September, we moved into a new office in SoHo.  By all accounts, 2011 is shaping up to be a great year.

In fact, we won’t be wasting any time in 2011 and will be launching a new product suite on January 11.  The product suite will include several tools that will make DOTGO even easier to use than it already is and will introduce new broadcast capabilities with a very competitive pricing structure.  With this new product suite, we will be better able to better serve our clients, which range from small businesses through large media companies and resellers.

If you are interested in being a launch partner, get in touch with us at contact@dotgo.com.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

DOTGO Launches at DEMO

Posted: September 29th, 2009

Scientific Media, Inc. is proud to announce that the DOTGO mobile publishing platform was launched at the prestigious DEMO launch venue in San Diego, California on September 23, 2009.

The DEMO conference event took place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina from Monday, September 21 through Wednesday, September 23 and was attended by representatives of over 75 of the leading consumer, business, and trade global media outlets.  The event was also broadcast live online to over 230,000 viewers in 80 countries around the world.

DOTGO was kicked off at 11:49 PDT on Wednesday, September 23 with a six-minute demonstration of the product by company co-founders Stefan Gromoll and Kenneth M. Lanzetta.  Check out a video of the DOTGO demonstration here:

DOTGO also unveiled a brand new web site and logo coincident with the launch.

The DOTGO offering was exceptionally well received by the assembled audience and was the subject of extensive press coverage.  Check out the DOTGO press release at the DOTGO press page, and check out a selection of the latest news and media coverage of DOTGO at the DOTGO news page.

The DEMO conference organizers described DOTGO as follows:

DOTGO is an elegant solution to the cumbersome and brand-challenged SMS short code system that allows brands to leverage the equity in their domain names while delivering an immediate, mobile experience to their customers.  The platform, along with the Concise Message Routing Language (CMRL), could be the key that unlocks SMS as an advertising and service channel for brands and businesses large and small.

We at Scientific Media, Inc. are excited about the launch of DOTGO and see many fantastic possibilities ahead.  Stay tuned for more.
