The World Cup is right around the corner, and we’ve got some great news for all our fellow soccer fans out there who can’t watch the big games live—relief has arrived, in the form of our new DOTGO Play-by-Play SMS service.
In the first ever SMS application of it’s kind, DOTGO Play-by-Play allows you to follow soccer games live via text message commentary on your mobile device.
This isn’t just a few automated goal alerts—this is live game commentary custom written in real-time by soccer aficionados. We’re pretty excited about it, and so are the thousands of soccer fans who’ve already been trying it out.
Here’s how it works—if you’re a Tigo subscriber, you can text in the domain name “futbogol.com” to the DOTGO short-code in your country. In response, you’ll get an SMS menu from where you can opt-in to the game(s) of your choice.
Once the match begins, you’ll start getting play-by-play text messages—or play-by-texts—whenever anything important happens during the game. Gustavo getting a little rough? You’ll know as soon as he gets that yellow card. Müller miss a shot just wide? You’ll be in the loop. And of course, the all-important GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!
We’re careful to strike just the right balance—where you’re in on the most important live action, but your phone isn’t blowing up with texts every time the ball changes possession or Balotelli takes his shirt off.
You can also text in anytime for the current score, yellow/red cards, team line-ups, substitutions, head-to-head records, polls, and to pause or resume the play-by-texts.
And the news gets better—DOTGO Play-by-Play is already live in Colombia, Guatemala, and Honduras, with more countries on the way, so you can already get in on the live action during World Cup qualifying matches, international leagues and cups like the Confederations this week, and more.
Check out a few of the DOTGO Play-by-Texts below, received by fans during the UEFA Championship game…
So far, the feedback we’ve been getting after games has been dramatic—lots of fans texted in to tell us they need this service for when they’re stuck at work during a big match without TV or internet access. Other fans said that certain games aren’t broadcast locally in their area, and that DOTGO Play-by-Play is their only way to follow those games live.
We’ll detail the feedback and statistics from the last game in our next blog post, so stay tuned!
So, what do you do if you aren’t a Tigo subscriber? Well, you might want to become one! But don’t fret—we’re working to bring more carriers on board so we can bring live Play-by-Texts to soccer fans everywhere.
In the meantime, email your carrier and tell them you want DOTGO Play-by-Play!
